I AM THE, AN ONCOMING JUNIOR AT GREENHILL HIGH SCHOOL, UH, LIFE SCOUT AND TROOP 2 63, AND PART OF GREENHILL'S ROTC PROGRAM.

I'M HERE TO PRESENT MY EAGLE SCOUT PROPOSAL FOR APPROVAL.

MY PROJECT IS A MONKEY BAR SYSTEM CONTAINING FOUR SECTIONS.

FIRST SECTION IS BEING AN INCLINE SECTION IN SECOND SECTION, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE, SO MEANING YOU HAVE TO HOLD ONTO THE SIDE.

THE THIRD SECTION HAS BOARDS ACROSS THE TOP WITH ROPES HANGING FROM THEM TO HANG AND GO ACROSS.

THE LAST SECTION IS REGULAR MONKEY BARS WITH THE ABILITY TO ROTATE.

THIS WILL BE BUILT, UH, BEHIND AT GREENHILL HIGH SCHOOL ON THE HILL BEHIND, NEAR OR BEHIND THE GREENHOUSES.

AND THE REASON I CHOSE THIS PROJECT IS BECAUSE I WANT GIVE BACK TO THE RDC PROGRAM BECAUSE IT, BOTH SCOUTING AND RDC INSTILLED IN ME, UH, LEADERSHIP DISCIPLINE SERVICE IN FIRST AID.

AND I ALSO WANT TO BUILD OFF MY BROTHER'S PROJECT, WHICH IS A CLI, UH, WHICH IS A CLIMBING WALL WITH, WITH PULL UP BARS.

THIS PROJECT WILL IMPROVE PHYSICAL, UH, UH, PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND READINESS.

AND IS THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT CAN, HAS THIS BEEN THROUGH ALL THE STEPS FOR APPROVAL THROUGH THE SCHOOL AND EVERYTHING? UM, I THINK IT'S PRETTY COOL TO BE ABLE TO BUILD OFF OF YOUR BROTHER'S PROJECT, SO I WOULD LIKE, REGARDLESS OF THAT MOTION TO APPROVE.

THE FIRST THING, WE HAVE EC CLASSES, BASIC LITERACY CLASSES, ESL CITIZENSHIP CLASSES, AND THEN WE HAVE TWO JAIL CLASSES.

HI, SET AND MOVING FORWARD.

AND THEN A FEW OF THE UPGRADES THAT I'LL EXPLAIN IN JUST ONE SECOND.

OUR IEC CLASSES ARE PRETTY FLEXIBLE HERE.

WE HAVE MORNING, AFTERNOON, AND EVENING CLASSES.

ALL OUR GRADUATES, THEY QUALIFY FOR THE HOPE SCHOLARSHIP, TENNESSEE PROMISE, AND TENNESSEE RECONNECT.

OUR GRADUATES ALSO HAVE AN INCREASE OF APPROXIMATELY $15,750 IN TAXPAYER REVENUE AND WAGES AFTER EARNING THEIR HIEP.

WE AVERAGE ABOUT 600 STUDENTS EVERY YEAR, AND IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, WE'VE, WE'VE GOT APPROXIMATELY 350 GRADUATES.

AND I SAY THAT BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE ONE MORE MONTH OF SCHOOL LEFT.

SO WE ARE YEAR ROUND PROGRAM, AND WE HAVE THREE MORE HIGH SET TESTS IN THE MONTH OF JUNE.

SO WE'RE, WE'RE, WE'RE STILL REALLY EXCITED ABOUT GETTING MORE GRADUATES.

I'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR GEL CLASS.

AND FIRST OF ALL, YOU MAY SAY, WHY, WHY ARE YOU IN THE JAIL? WELL, IN 2021, THE LATEST STATS SHOW THAT TENNESSEE'S RECIDIVISM RATE IS 46%.

AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THAT ALMOST HALF OF ALL THOSE THAT ARE RELEASED FROM JAIL ARE ESTIMATED TO RETURN IN ABOUT THREE YEARS.

SO WE HAVE TWO CLASSES AT THE JAIL.

ONE IS A HSEC CLASS.

OUR SECOND CLASS IS A REENTRY CLASS, AND IT'S CALLED MOVING FORWARD WITH MS. JULIE DRAPER.

UH, KRISA HENDERSON TEACHES OUR HI SET CLASSES.

UM, OUR HI SET CLASSES ARE PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD, BUT OUR MOVING FORWARD CLASS IS A REENTRY CLASS.

AND WHAT WE DO THERE IS WE HELP OUR STUDENTS GET READY TO RETURN TO THE COMMUNITY.

WE TEACH WORKPLACE READINESS SKILLS.

WE HAVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, FINANCIAL AND DIGITAL LITERACY, PARENTING SKILLS.

AND THEN WE ALSO SHARE THE RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE HERE IN WILSON COUNTY SO THAT THEY ARE PREPARED WHEN THEY GET OUT.

LAST YEAR,

I'M PROUD TO SAY THAT OUR JAIL PROGRAM WAS THE NUMBER ONE IN TENNESSEE.

WE HAD 72 GRADUATES LAST YEAR, AND SO FAR WE HAVE 40 GRADUATES, WHICH, UM, WE STILL HAVE TWO MORE TESTS TO GO IN THE MONTH OF JUNE.

SO WE HOPE TO BE CLOSER TO THE 72.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF OUR GEL CLASSES.

NEXT WE HAVE ESL CLASSES.

IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, WE'VE HAD ABOUT 500 ESL STUDENTS, AND THOSE 500 STUDENTS HAVE HAVE, UM, ABOUT 28 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES IN OUR ESL CLASSES.

WE HELP THEM TO LEARN TO READ AND COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH.

WE ALSO TEACH EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AND PREPARE SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR WHEN THEY'RE IN WORK.

WE DO HAVE A WORKPLACE, UM, ESL CLASS AT ASUR CURRENTLY, AND THAT'S OVER IN MOUNT JULIET.

MOUNT JULIET.

AND A HUNDRED PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS WHO TOOK THEIR WORKPLACE TEST PASSED IT THE OTHER DAY.

AND THAT'S FOR US.

WE DO THAT ABOVE OUR ENGLISH CLASSES.

WE ALSO TRY TO MEET WITH THEM AND SEE WHAT THEY WANT US TO HELP TEACH OUR ESL STUDENTS SO THAT IT IMPROVES THEIR SAFETY AND HOPEFULLY, UM, KEEPS THEIR STUDENTS, THEIR EMPLOYEES THERE TOO.

THEIR RETENTION RATES.

EVERY MONTH, WE HAVE, UH, SOMEONE FROM THE COMMUNITY WHO COMES OUT TO OUR CLASSES TO DO A COMMUNITY OUTREACH.

SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR WILSON COUNTY SCHOOLS IS THAT WE HAVE HIGHER PARENT INVOLVEMENT, WHICH EQUATES TO IMPROVED STUDENT OUTCOMES.

OUR ESL CLASSES CURRENTLY ARE AT THE ADULT LEARNING CENTER ASSURANCE AND ST.

PHILIPPE TIER.

IN MOUNT JULIET.

WE ALSO HAVE BASIC LITERACY CLASSES.

THE BOTTOM LINE FOR OUR BASIC LITERACY IS THAT OUR GOAL IS THAT OUR STUDENTS START TO BECOME PRODUCTIVE EMPLOYEES, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND CITIZENS.

MY FAVORITE PICTURE ON HERE IS THIS GENTLEMAN HERE WHO, WHEN HE CAME TO OUR CLASSES, HE SAID, I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ TO MY DAUGHTER.

SO, IMPROVING ADULT LITERACY DIRECTLY IMPROVES THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION.

AND I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT MS. LINDA, SUE SIMPSON IS OUR TEACHER HERE, AND SHE'S BEEN IN THE WILSON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEMS AS A TEACHER FOR 54 YEARS.

SO SHE'S REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT HER JOB.

NEXT, WE DO HAVE CITIZENSHIP CLASSES, AND THAT'S THANKS TO MS. SHANNON QUEEN.

SHE'S THE VOLUNTEER, AND SHE HAS CLASSES AT OUR PLACE IN, UH, ADULT LEARNING CENTER AND ALSO AT ST.

PHILIPPE TIER.

AND WHAT SHE DOES THERE IS PREPARES THE STUDENTS TO TAKE THEIR CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES, NATURALIZATION INTERVIEW AND THEIR TEST.

SO OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, WE'VE HAD 37 NEW CITIZENS BECAUSE OF MS. SHANNON QUEEN AND, UM, VOLUNTEERING AT THESE TWO LOCATIONS.

SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AS WELL.

SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE DO, UH, IS WE HAVE A HESI PREP PROGRAM, AND THAT'S FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE WANTING TO BECOME NURSES.

WE PARTNER WITH TCAT AND THEY CAN COME TO OUR PLACE AND WE HELP THEM GET READY TO TAKE THE HESI PREP.

WE HELP OUR STUDENTS STUDY FOR THE A CT OR THE ASBA.

WE PARTNER WITH THE AMERICAN JOB CENTER FOR THEIR, THEIR, UM, STUDENTS WHO WANT TO BE TO GO TO LINEMAN'S SCHOOL.

AND THEN FINALLY, ONE OF OUR PERKS, WE HAVE A CAREER COACH.

SO WE MENTOR OUR STUDENTS WITH THEIR NEXT STEPS.

THEY GIVE THEM CAREER ASSESSMENTS, JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE, AND THEN FINALLY GETTING THEM INTO COLLEGE.

THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE LOCATIONS THAT OUR CLASSES ARE IN.

THERE'S A 30 FOOT RIGHT OF WAY AND WE WOULD BE PUTTING OUR SEWER LINE IN THAT RIGHT OF WAY.

THIS AGREEMENT IS REQUIRED BY T DECK IN ORDER FOR US TO DO THAT.
